Each of us has a goal in life. One or more of them, it’s totally irrelevant, only thing that’s relevant is how many of them we can achieve. What’s yours? Do you want to lose weight? Go back to a great shape? Earn/save money? Having goals is easy part. Achieving them? That’s something else. If you are frustrated because you have a feeling like you are spinning in a circle without any achievement, it’s time to try other ways of achieving goals.
-
Setting your goal
To achieve the goal you need to know what do you want to achieve. Your goals have to be specific and realistic. Before setting the goal, ask yourself the following questions:
- What do I want? (e.g. Lose 5 kilos? // Save $100 every month?)
- How do I get it? (e.g. I’ll exercise everyday! // I’ll do exact cost plan for each purchase and I’ll stick to that!)
- Till when? (e.g. The next two weeks! // This whole month!)
While setting the goal, ask yourself if your goals are realistic and if you’re ready to make changes in your life that are needed for achieving those goals.
-
Commitment to your goal
The goals that have been achieved are well defined and individuals are truly and completely committed. I suggest you to check your commitment. Ask yourself why do you want to achieve a certain goal. What will it do better for you? Why is it really important? What will your life be when you reach it? If you have difficulties in execution, you have to ask yourself if that’s a real goal.
-
Get rid of obstacles
One of the reasons why many people don’t achieve their goals is that they just can’t say no to others. Many of us, put other people and things in the first place. It’s hard to refuse when somebody asks for our time, our help or just for our presence. To say “yes” is the habit that we aren’t aware of. Often saying the word “no” opens a lot of time, not just for doing your own goal, but also for thinking about how to get to it. In short, set the boundaries and priorities in the correct order.
-
Ask others for help
If your goal can include other participators, ask them for help. Show them your plans, intentions and final goal in detail and include them in. Of course it’s not allowed to exploit the good will of others so how you could achieve your goals faster. But asking for a little help or advice is not a crime.
-
Reward yourself
If you have succeeded in achieving your goal, at a certain time, you are surely proud of yourself. Reward yourself according to the possibilities and enjoy your success.
Congratulations! 🙂

My favorite part is the reward haha. In reality, staying focused on your goal and avoiding the distractions can be very challenging.

I think creating a community or a network of help around your goal is so important. I know whenever I was trying to look for a new job or grow with my company or even start my own blog I turned to my friends and family for support, advice and guidance and it made the changes or new experiences less scary.

Always have to set goals no matter what stage of life you are in. Just try bits by bits.

Ah… I need to add rewarding myself to the list. I don’t do that and I should.

I think I really need to work on rewarding myself. It’s not something that I do very often and I think maybe a great incentive for me to stay focused when it’s time when I know I get to do a little something for me at the end of the week!
